Lizzo expertly quoted Nicki Minaj in an epic clapback moment aimed at comedian Aries Spears at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards.
While accepting the Moon Person for Video for Good (for her hit, “About Damn Time”) on Sunday, the multifaceted musician, 34, thanked her fans and then said into the mic, “And now, to the bitches that got something to say about me in the press…”
While Minaj’s almost identical opener at the 2015 VMAs was directed at then-host Miley Cyrus — and followed by the now-famous line, “Miley, what’s good?” — Lizzo took a slightly different approach.
“You know what? I’m not gonna say nothing,” she told the crowd at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. “They be like, ‘Lizzo, why don’t you clap back? Why don’t you clap back?’

“‘Cause, bitch, I’m winning, ho! Big bitch is winning, ho!” she shouted, eliciting roaring praise from those in attendance.
Though she didn’t name names, Lizzo was certainly sending a message to Aries Spears, who recently body shamed her.
“I can’t get past the fact that she looks like the s–t emoji,” the comedian said in an interview with “The Art of Dialogue,” a platform that claims to be “elevating Hip-Hop culture.”
“She’s got a very pretty face, but she keeps showing her body off,” he went on. “Like, come on, man. Come on, yo.”
He continued, “I’m sorry. Listen, I ain’t the most in-shape n—a in the world, but I still — when you funny and you got swagger and confidence and you decent looking … I think I’m at least handsome — you get p—y. But a woman that’s built like a plate of mashed potatoes is in trouble.”
Spears then chose to condemn women who support Lizzo and are inspired by her confidence.
“You know what kills me about women is the hypocrisy and the contradiction,” he said, visibly sweating.
“F–k diabetes, f–k heart problems, f–k heart disease, cholesterol. Y’all claim womanhood and about sisterhood and support for your sister, you know, when it comes to that ridiculous s–t. But if you really gave a f–k, why wouldn’t you go, ‘Black girl, we love your confidence, boo boo, but this ain’t it. This ain’t it.’”
Spears further claimed, “That’s the real love! Y’all jump on me for making jokes, but y’all won’t be f–king real and go, ‘Sister, put the eclair down. This ain’t it. It’s treadmill time.’”
