A Chicago man on parole for illegally possessing a weapon was arrested in Zion after officers found him with a loaded handgun that had been converted to be fully automatic, prosecutors said.

Darryl Vance Jr., 27, of Chicago, was charged with armed habitual criminal, two counts of possession of a machine gun, two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and felon in possession of a firearm.

The Zion Police Department responded on Monday to a domestic altercation on Lorelei Drive.

Several people called 911 reporting a woman was screaming “help, help, help,” according to Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Lillian Lewis.

The 911 callers also heard a man say, “I’m ready to go b–ch” and heard a child crying.

Officers arrived at the apartment complex and went to the apartment where witnesses reported the disturbance had been occurring.

While officers were investigating, someone who worked at the apartment building reported seeing a man running from the complex with a handgun, Lewis said during a bond hearing.

Surveillance video showed reportedly Vance running down a staircase of the building with a handgun in his left hand.

Officers located Vance nearby the Walmart sitting in the driver’s seat of a car by himself.

Officers could see a handgun in plain view sticking out from the passenger side seat, Lewis said.

The gun was a loaded Glock handgun with an auto sear, which converts the gun from semi-automatic to fully automatic.

Lewis said Vance does not have a Firearm Owner’s Identification card or concealed carry license because he is a convicted felon.

The man was on parole at the time of his arrest for a previous aggravated unlawful use of a weapon case in Cook County.

Lake County Judge James Simonian ordered Vance held on a $250,000 bond.

Vance remains held in the Lake County Jail and would need to post $25,000 cash in order to be released.
